GRADING MADE SIMPLE. We use grades for stamps issued prior to 1935.
Fine (F) : This is the normal condition for earlier issues. This condition is
generally acceptable to the majority of collectors. Perforations frequently would touch
or slightly cut into the stamp design. The usual small flaws are normal on early issues: (# 1 to 47).
Very Fine (VF) : Stamps of this condition would have all the perforations clear design. The design is
positioned between 4 edges, although the stamp design may be off center on one side. VF stamps will well please the
more particular collector. Early issues will have no fault. Used stamps will be lightly cancelled.
Extremely Fine (XF) : Stamps in XF condition are very well centered, which means that the
stamp design is perfectly centered between the four edges. This is the normal condition for modern stamps. If XF
stamps are required for earlier issues, add the percentage shown above each series.
All prices are in Canadian funds. Prior to 1894, unused prices are for stamps with partial gum. If
Extra Fine (XF) stamps are required, remember to add the percentage where indicated.
